How to Check DNS Records: A, MX, NS and TXT
Learn what common DNS records mean, how to look them up, and when DNS changes may take time to appear.
What DNS records do
A and AAAA records map a domain to IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. MX identifies mail servers, NS names authoritative nameservers, and TXT is used for information such as SPF or domain verification.
Check a domain
Enter a domain in the DNS Checker, choose a record type, then compare the answer with the settings at your DNS provider. If no record appears, check the spelling and selected type.
Understand unexpected results
DNS resolvers may cache older answers until their time-to-live expires. Different resolvers can temporarily return different answers after a change.
